The Academician of Russian Academy of Architectural and Civil Sciences, Pavel Akimov

Distinguished guests!

Good afternoon!

I am very happy to attend the President Forum of “the Belt and Road Architectural University International Consortium”. We do not belong to an educational institution, but we belong to a scientific research institution. Despite this, we have extensive cooperation with various universities in Russia and international universities. In my speech, I would like to introduce to you very briefly about our activities today.

Firstly, let's review the history of our organization. Our institution is relatively young, which was probably established 26 years ago. It was mainly established with the support of the President. Despite this, it is not the first Russian civil engineering school. The first building civil engineering institute was established in the 18th century. It was mainly produced by the merger of three institutions in the field of sculpture architecture and painting. You can also see the dean of our academy, who is also an academician of the Russian Academy of Architecture and Engineering. In addition, he is also a very famous architect in our country. Before that, he was also the chief architect of Moscow City.

Secondly, let us introduce the three types of members that our unit mainly includes: completed members, communication members and foreign members. Our various members are elected, mainly based on their contribution to science. Currently we have 57 full-time members. In addition, we have many foreign members, which are based on their scientific contributions. You can also see on this PowerPoint that many of our college management are very outstanding scientists and engineers. For example, one of them is an engineer in one of our local landmarks. In addition, one of our institutions has built one of the world's most prestigious buildings in St. Petersburg in the 19th century. The main objectives introduced here are: first, our predictions for science, especially for construction, civil engineering and urban planning; second, we actively participate in the work of the Russian Federation to promote the country, especially the sustainable development and construction; third, it provides academic support for Russia and regional architecture universities, and actively participates in regional international exchanges and cooperation. Regarding international exchanges and cooperation, it includes internationally renowned institutions such as construction, planning and municipal construction. From this PowerPoint, we can see that we have carried out a lot of activities: first, our participation and coordination in application and basic research; second, we provide support to educational institutions, including some universities in Russia. It also includes some colleges and universities overseas. In addition, we have received support from the Russian government in terms of construction and municipal planning. With these, we have organized many activities on international cooperation, international conferences and international exchanges. Because of the time, I can't list them one by one.

In addition, I would like to briefly introduce you to our college publications and some academic works. Our main scientific research journals are called Academic Journal of Construction Science. In this journal, there are a lot of published papers, which are a collection of some research results of our member units, many of which are quite influential. Another publication is called International Journal of Computer Civil and Municipal Engineering, which was published by our partner AE Three. He also attended the activity today. In addition, the main focus of this academic journal is computer modeling and mathematical modeling in architectural science. On this PowerPoint, we mainly introduce the units of our organization. There are three main units: the municipal planning department, the construction department, and the construction science department. Each unit is subdivided into specific departments. Second, we have 38 branches in the central, southern, northwest, Far East, Siberia, and Crimea regions of our country. Volga and the regional center are the institutions that have just been established this year. Third, the council and the committee have specific missions. For example, we have academic committees, general academic committees, architectural professional committees, and construction science committees. On this PowerPoint we can see our scientific committees, which focus on different areas, such as municipal planning, protection and restoration of cultural relics, concrete construction techniques, some soil science, and environmental protection. There are also integrated disciplines related to environmental protection and ecology. My colleague will make a more specific statement on this content tomorrow. In addition, I would like to briefly introduce the application of technology, computational modeling and mathematical modeling in the construction industry. In this regard, my other colleague will also give you a more detailed introduction in the speech tomorrow. In addition to this, there are committees on geological earthquake science and so on. Our most important partner is the International Civil Engineering Society. In this society, more than 150 members are from Russian institutions, and many of them are from the former Soviet Union. From this PowerPoint, you can see the awards won by our Academy of Sciences, some of which are awarded to faculty and staff, as well as outstanding undergraduate and graduate students. In addition, our participation in national projects is also very extensive. As you can see from this PowerPoint, we are involved in the Russian National Priority Project. In the Russian Federation's science and technology development plan from 2013 to 2020, we have made our long-term contribution.

The next few PowerPoint mainly introduces our contribution to basic research, which mainly includes three different contents: about architecture, about construction, and about urban planning. The first is about the solution and research of theoretical and historical issues in architecture and urban planning; the second is about the interdisciplinary study of architectural urban planning; and the third is the theoretical research on the basics of some municipal planning.

In addition, we need to predict the trends of future research and provide theoretical support for the latest developments in building science. The following PowerPoint also lists a number of branch areas, such as building materials, engineering mechanics, and so on.

The eighth research direction is to take into account environmental and urban livability considerations. In other words, we not only need to considerate the technology itself, but also the current environment for the compatibility of livability and environmental compatibility.

Finally, let me introduce you to some of the scientific activities that we have carried out. Our institute has organized more than 100 different conference seminars and academic events. The location is not only at home but also abroad. For me, what's more important is a series of workshops on computational modeling in architecture. We have held six seminars in Russia. The seventh seminar will be held next year at a well-known civil engineering institute in Russia. I also invite all colleagues here to actively participate in this conference.

I use this PowerPoint to briefly introduce our work on computer structural modeling. As you can see from this, we have already held many such academic conferences in the past. The next issue will be held in February next year. This is some of the work we and the publishing house have done. The content we publish basically includes the most outstanding materials in our industry, as well as some materials for counseling. We believe that we will have more outstanding materials published in the future, and we are also looking forward to further strengthening cooperation with the member organizations of the Belt and Road Architectural University International Consortium. Thank you very much for listening.
