BUCEA organizes 2022 Virtual International Summer School on Resilient Cities

Beijing University of Civil Engineering and Architecture (BUCEA) organized the Virtual International Summer School on Resilient Cities from July 25th to July 29th, 2022, which has attracted the participation of 228 students from 29 countries and 66 universities and research institutions, staff of the organizers including the International Development and Research Institute, the Department of Academic Affairs and International Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing Student Consortium (ISPRS SC), and BUCEA student representatives of the 1st National Outstanding College Student Summer School.

The summer school was jointly organized by ISPRS SC and BUCEA and co-organized by China University-Enterprise Alliance of Education of Outstanding Engineers Majoring in Civil Engineering in Construction. ISPRS SC members including Auburn University (the U.S.), University of Twente (Netherlands), University of Tehran (Iran) and University of the Philippines (the Philippines); Belt and Road Architectural University International Consortium (BRAUIC) universities including Saint Petersburg State University of Architecture and Civil Engineering (Russia), Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (Greece), Chongqing Jiaotong University, Qingdao University of Technology, Anhui Jianzhu University and Nanchang University; members of China University-Enterprise Alliance of Education of Outstanding Engineers Majoring in Civil Engineering in Construction including Shenyang Jianzhu University, Jilin Jianzhu University, Kunming University of Science and Technology and Tianjin Chengjian University participated in this event.

Extraordinary teaching staff from home and abroad were invited to give lectures in the summer school, including Luca Maria Francesco Fabris from Polytechnic University of Milan (Italy), Mozhdeh Shahbazi from Natural Resources Canada, Daniela Deutsch from Newschool of Architecture (the U.S.), ZHAO Dongye and LIU Junshan from Auburn University, SUN Peng from University of Central Florida, Stuart Green and Emmanuel Essah from University of Reading (the UK), Muhammad Ramzan from Bahria University (Islamabad, Pakistan), Laxmi Thapa from the ISPRS SC, HUANG Wei from Tongji University and LI Mengyixin, SHAN Xiaowei and XU Shishuo from Beijing University of Civil Engineering and Architecture.

Four student representatives shared their learning outcomes. They were Christina Erato Zymvragou from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (Greece), HOU Liting from Jilin Jianzhu University, ZHAO Shuang from School of Geomatics and Urban Spatial Informatics of BUCEA, and SHEN Yameng from School of Architecture and Urban Planning of BUCEA.

The one-week online courses encompassed 14 high-level lectures focusing on the relative academic hot spots and topics in “resilient city”, including the innovative and cutting-edge academic research in architectural planning, engineering technology, geomatics and urban spatial informatics and remote sensing, intelligent construction, robot engineering and construction management. The international summer school attracted 228 students from 29 countries and 66 universities and research institution to participate, which set a record for the diversity and number of nationalities and universities, showcasing the increasingly advanced global impact of the international summer school of BUCEA.
